Fees

Most therapists work a 50-minute hour; I work the full hour. At Denis Boyd & Associates in Coquitlam, like the other psychologists, I bill the current hourly fee recommended by the British Columbia Psychological Association, $175/hr.

I know it's steep, and nearly all the clients I see have at least some Insurance coverage, usually through Extended Health Benefits.

At the Granville office I bill the hourly rate of $160/hr. In a limited number of cases I can offer a sliding scale. The usual process is that the client pays me up front and I issue a receipt which the client sends back to the insurance company for reimbursement.

I find that with the majority of people, a lot of sessions aren't needed. Many people can advance a good distance with a few sessions' work. Therapy receipts can be claimed under health expenses on your income tax.
